Deirdrea | Marfa Mood Mercantile
While we were in Marfa, they were experiencing their “monsoon season”. Normally, Marfa gets sun almost all year round, save for a few days of rain. This year, they had rain for over two weeks straight. But despite this, it was still so nice to be out there and see Marfa in a different light.
During on of our rainy day explorations, we met Dierdrea. She is the owner of Marfa Mood Mercantile (@marfamoodmercantile), a tiny store that sells local art, gifts, jewelry, and even handmade soap. The shop itself is tiny, but it is full of charm and character.
Dierdrea comes to Marfa via Kansas, Austin, and Taiwan. Before moving to town, she spent her time in the tech world, but found herself growing weary and in search of something more. While working in Austin, she kept hearing about the allure of West Texas and once she came, it was love at first sight. From there, her and her husband decided to make this town their home.
To this day, Dierdrea’s husband is still in tech, but is fully remote, so as long as there is good wifi, all is good. Now, Dierdrea’s day is spent minding her shop, and adopting as many puppies as she can. Unfortunately she has reached her capacity so now she donates a portion of her sales to local pet adoption centers. And if you happen to buy something, be sure to ask for a bottle cap so you can put in one her many “CITY” jars. This is her way keeping track where in Texas her visitors come from. Just another quirky, yet endearing detail in the myriads of treats at Marfa Mood.
